In general, we stand to praise, we sit to learn and we kneel to pray. Many times where options are given, a parish will adopt the posture that most members prefer. In St. John's Sunday service bulletins we indicate the points in the services when we usually stand or kneel. What is a rector?The rector is the clergyperson who serves a parish. Generally, the supervising officer of a religious institution. At St. John's Episcopal Church in Norman the rector is the Rev. Dwight Helt. What is a curate ?A curate is a clergyperson charged with the "care of souls." More commonly, a clergyperson who serves as an assistant in a parish under a pastor's direction. There is currently no curate at St. John's Episcopal Church.
