St. John’s Parish Bookkeeping Position

 

Job Summary

St. John’s Bookkeeper supports the Rector and the Vestry by coordinating and executing critical financial responsibilities of the Church. The Bookkeeper’s support enables the Rector and Vestry to carry out their ministries in the parish.

This position requires a high level of organization and the ability to critically evaluate and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.  Adhering to the requirements of the Diocesan Business Manual is critical to having a well-functioning parish.

Qualifications 

• Bookkeeping Experience: 1 year (required)
• Project Management: 1 year (preferred)
• Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
• Must pass background investigation to comply with church requirements

Pay and Benefits

• $22.00 per hour

Schedule

• 8 hours per week

Required Skills

• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication
• Strong integrity, honesty, and confidentiality
• Knowledge of general financial accounting, with a proven ability to work within    financial controls
• Working knowledge of financial and accounting based programs

 Essential Duties

·      Assist the Parish Treasurer in maintaining all financial files of the church,               including deposits and invoices
·      Assist the Parish Treasurer in completing financial reports to be sent to the         Resource Development Committee and the Vestry prior to the monthly               meetings
·      Provide monthly updates to the  parishioner records with                                       online/ACH/credit card gifts  
·      Pay and/or record invoices in a timely manner
·      Assist the Parish Treasurer in completing the monthly mutual ministry                 support
·      Assist the Parish Treasurer in submitting the parochial report each year in           accordance with diocesan guidelines
·      Assist the Parish Treasurer in submitting payroll to the diocese in a timely           manner
·      Assist the Parish Treasurer in preparing files for audit each year
·      Assist the Parish Treasurer in sending out quarterly statements to                         parishioners
·      Assist the Parish  Treasurer in sending out end of year statements, gift                 letters, and 1099s
·      Assist with camp scholarship forms as needed
·      Collaborate with the Parish Treasurer to formulate annual budget for                     approval
·      Assist the Parish Treasurer in tracking and maintaining receipts for                       purchases made with parish charge accounts
