Reverend James Tyree started attending St. John’s in 2007 and became a member the following year. He was ordained as Deacon in 2017 after three years of clergy training at the Iona School of Formation in Oklahoma and, much to his delight, he was assigned to serve at his home parish of St. John’s.
Deacon James assists at all Sunday Eucharist services, leads a Bible discussion on Wednesday evenings via Zoom and helps with outreach activities and hospital visits. He wants every parishioner and visitor to feel welcome and at home at St. John’s and in the wider Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement. Outside of St. John’s, the deacon is a father of three adult children and a University of Oklahoma graduate who works in communication at a state agency after spending 20 years as a newspaper reporter.
